# 9 - Cooking and Baking
Kids love good food, strictly speaking, not the healthy ones, but the ones rich in calories. So, to make them happy, plan a cooking and baking day once a week, and get them involved in the process as much as you can. Ask them to select the items they want to prepare and then, also ask them to help. Though it might seem appealing to do the whole job alone, because kids are surely going to create a lot of mess, but that’s the fun. Ask them to read out the recipes, or hand over ingredients to you, and even ask them to do the easy and simple steps.
The key thing to get your children excited is to involve them right at the beginning. Tell them one week or a few days in advance what you are planning to do and ask for their suggestions.
Recently, I told my children that we were going to have a steamboat dinner at home and I need their help to plan what ingredients we need. As I did not have a multi-function cooker, I also got them involved in researching for one online. We searched on the websites of a few local electronics store like Best Denki and Harvey Norman. We looked at the cookers available and the features that each of them has. In the process, I had taught my children how to use the Internet to do some simple research.
We also got them to suggest what we want on the menu. My children were very excited about the steamboat that they kept talking about it the whole week. Needless to say, everyone had a fun time enjoying a simple meal. We took lots of photos and videos too!
And you can take this one step further by getting your children to write about their experience and publish it on their website.
Now, here’s the good news.
Mind Sprout Pte Ltd will be conducting a 4-hour website building workshop for children. And parents are encouraged to attend the workshop together with their children. The children will actually be building their own website in the class. By the end of the workshop, they will walk away with their own website that they have built. Plus, they would have acquired the skills of building a website.
If you think this is something that will benefit your child, come and attend this 4-hour workshop.

P.S: This is great for both parents and child to come together and bond while experiencing growth.
More and more parents believe that stipulating the right hemisphere of the brain is as important as developing the left. However, classes that specifically cater to such holistic development don’t come cheap. So, what can we do if we cannot afford these? The answer is for them to do art.
